- Parvo is caused by a microscopic creature, a highly contagious virus that is transmitted by dogs coming into contact with infected feces. Some dogs can shed the virus without actually having symptoms of the disease. The parvo virus infects the lining of the intestines causing rapid destruction of the sensitive lining which results in vomiting and explosive diarrhea. - Because puppies retain maternal antibodies until the age of about 16-22 weeks, and because it is impossible to know exactly when the maternal antibodies fail to protect, we recommend starting your puppy on Parvo-X early. After weaning, give 10cc of the paste for 3 days; wait 30 days and repeat the dose of 10cc's for 3 days. Continue this program every 30 days for the first 6 months to offer protection during that dangerous period when they lose maternal antibodies.
